Success Stories

Austin, TX -- Bear, a 6-year-old Golden Retriever being held at Austin's Town Lake Animal Center, was rescued on July 31, just before his date with euthanasia, thanks to the loving assistance of Texas Brittany Rescue. His family had allowed him to stray and did not wish to claim him.

Adoption Report:

August 2001 -- Bear has been adopted by his adoring new mom in San Antonio, Texas! After losing a dog to cancer earlier this year, Susan was looking for a grown dog to adopt as a companion for her Australian shepherd mix Megan. When a friend brought Bear to her attention, it was a perfect match! Everyone involved in Bear's rescue is delighted with his loving new home and his new "leash" on life. And I have to make a special mention of thanks to srdogs.com and Nancy in New York who fell in love with Bear after seeing him on the srdgos site. Nancy's contributions of emotional and financial support were critical to Bear's rescue & care! Your site really is making a tremendous difference in the lives of these dogs and in the lives of people who care about them! carri.crowe@onebox.com

Kanab, Utah -- Jack is a senior blind, deaf Cocker who was living at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary for quite some time. The Sanctuary requested that an ad for Jack be posted on the srdogs site.

Adoption Report:

June 2001 -- "Great news! Through a listing on the Senior Dogs site, a woman in Pennsylvania fell in love with our Jack. He went to his new home last weekend and is doing well with his new family!....Thanks!...Karen Green......Animal Help....Best Friends"

November 2001 Update -- "I just wanted to let you know that Jack was euthanized November 29 due to kidney failure. I am the woman from PA who adopted little Jack. He was one of the best dogs I have ever had. He had nothing but love with this family and we would gladly do it again....we love our Jack....may he rest in peace. Sincerely, Joyce Chruscial in Pennsylvania"

Sparta, Wisconsin -- Ellie was surrendered because she "...likes to wander to the neighbor's house when not watched," according to her ex-family. We were dumbstruck by this reason, but at least it accounted for Ellie's wonderful, friendly, loving nature.

Adoption Report:

July 2000 -- Ellie's ad had been posted for less than 48 hours when she found a home, thanks to a wonderful family in Mundelein, IL (near Chicago) who read about the Senior Dogs Project website in Dog Fancy magazine's July 2000 issue. A year later, we heard from her new family that Ellie is a wonderful dog and is very loved.

Bakersfield, California -- Sassy, a Doberman mix, was found in the drop chute of the Mojave animal shelter. There was a note attached to her collar saying, "My name is Sassy. I'm 8 years old and spayed. I get along well with kids and other animals." She was such a wonderful dog that no one at the shelter can bear the thought of euthanizing her.

Adoption Report:

August 2000.... " I want to thank you for putting the Doberman mix, Sassy, on your website. We got a call on Monday from someone who had seen her on your site. She had been at the county animal shelter for at least 2 and 1/2 months. Sassy was bailed out of the shelter yesterday, and tomorrow she is on her way to her new home! Thanks so much for your help; she wouldn't have gotten a new home without you."

Near Austin, Texas -- Cody, a male, neutered, black Border Colle mix, about 70 pounds, and about 5 years old, was found wandering the area around Four Paws Ranch. For nearly two weeks, he would not let anyone near him. One day, his paw pads had become so raw and sore, he allowed one of the Four Paws staff to pick him up. After a stay with the vet, he came home to Four Paws. A shy but very sweet-natured dog. Because he was mistreated, he still cowers and runs away at a raised voice. He melts for a soft, sweet voice, though, and gets along well with other dogs.

Adoption Report:

"Just wanted to let you know that Cody has been adopted by a person who saw him on your website! Thank you for your listing."

Chesapeake Bay, Virginia -- Bailey is a great little guy! .....only 10 pounds and 11 1/2 inches tall, and just 7 years old. A purebred Miniature Pinscher, he was being surrendered by his guardian, who had to care for a terminally ill mother .

Adoption Report:

September 2000 ...." I am very happy to report that Bailey's owner has decided that she really does not want to part with him, and he will be staying right where he is!! I think I owe this to your website the most, as I got quite a few more inquiries than I thought I would because of his being on your site! I had an excellent home lined up to take him and, once I told the owner that, she really sat down and re-evaluated her situation and decided that Bailey's best place was with her!"
